Bungamati &
Khokana Villages
So close to the city and yet a lifestyle that goes back 50 years. One of the better preserved Newari villages, Bungamati is set 10 kms south of Patan and centred around a sunny central square. Ancient brick houses with ornately carved windows line its winding alleyways . It thrives on the fertile lands that surround the village and is a centre for woodcarving . The area is renowned for its mustard oil, and in season the presses run full tilt. An impressive temple adorns the central square with
its beautiful roof struts and other fine woodcarvings. This important temple was damaged in the recent earthquake and is to be restored with assistance from the Srilankan government.
The best times to capture its colors are early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the village comes to life or prepares to close for the day.. It is a pleasure to simple wander down the village’s cobbled streets, walking past the carved rest houses, water taps and observing craftsmen at work in their workshops, and the womenfolk going about their daily lives.

The Heritage Walk A half day discovery of Patan starting at Patan Dhoka. The walk of about 05 km takes you through back alleys to the Durbar Square. The walk covers the towns deservedly well know and visited spots, but takes you to equally fascinating places that are off the beaten tourist path. Legends and architectural remains tell stories of Patan's rich cultural history. The walk takes us through the older part of the city , which lies to the north and west of the palace compels.
